Church Officer Nominations
fThe Congregational Nominating Committee of Valley Presbyterian Church is working to identify men and women to accept God’s call to serve as elders and deacons for 3-year terms of service beginning January 1, 2019. The slate of candidates will be presented at a congregational meeting in early fall.
ELDERS serve on the Session, the principal decision-making body of the church. Session is primarily responsible for the overall mission and government of the church. In addition to attending the monthly Session meeting, each elder provides leadership for one of the church’s committees or ministry teams, shares in serving communion and assists as needed.
DEACONS serve on the Board of Deacons, the loving heart of the church, which has oversight of congregational care. This includes being responsible for all of the Congregational Care committees, preparing monthly church communion, and ministering to the homebound through extended communion. Deacons attend monthly meetings of the Board and participate on one, or more, of the committees. These committees include: Communion, Facility Visitation, Network of Caring/Rideshare/Homebound visitation, Grief and Bereavement, Communication of Care to Congregants, Prayer Ministry/Shawls, Stephen Ministry, Ushers/Owl Express/Security, Sunday Fellowship, and QAPI.
YOUR NOMINATING COMMITTEE REQUESTS SUGGESTIONS FROM MEMBERS FOR THESE IMPORTANT LEADERSHIP POSITIONS.
Members should also feel encouraged to propose themselves for positions in which they would be willing to serve. Please use the Suggestion Form on the reverse side of this page and leave your suggestions in the box in the church office. The following are members of the Nominating Committee:
Bob Campbell, Moderator Tom Macfarlane
Pat Bruner Kathie Rusk
